What Social Media Can Do To You…

I’m a girl who isn’t allowed to have Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat. I have an email, Skype, Google Hangouts, (all contacts = friends, and people I know), and then Google + where I follow only my friends.

Yes, it’s true, I have not really dealt with this problem.

No, it’s not true that I don’t know the serious effects of the media.

I do know the effects of social media and I have seen it, sadly.

Let’s take this one by one, shall we?

First, we will talk about each social media, what you see, what you don’t see, how the social media works, too; then we will wrap it up and talk about the effects.

Snapchat is a big thing nowadays. You can send messages/pictures/videos to certain people that disappear after they are viewed. (First, I think this is weird, but whatever).

People can send perfect vacation pictures.

People can send the best-looking part of their day, the cleanest part of their house, they can take pictures in their best clothes, and when everyone is happy.

What you don’t see?

The mess.

The bad attitude.

The two years no vacation time.

I love talking politics but it can rough on Facebook. Plus, the perfect pictures just like Snapchat where you don’t see the person’s problems, just the benefits of the life they lead. Negativity is a big hit on Facebook, let’s be real.

Ah, yes, Insta! Pictures and short videos with words you can put and backgrounds and all that fun stuff; again, perfect pictures and no problems. Insta isn’t really known to get negative, but it can.

Okay, I have Pinterest, and I love it. I’ve seen some bad words and immodest clothing/references on there, though, and for young people who are not firm in their rules for modesty, not saying atrocious words every other line, and all of that other stuff, it can be a problem.

You see cute ideas.

But, you also see the bad stuff that comes with it.

I know the phrase ‘keep the good, leave the bad…’ and I’ve used it, but sometimes (for some ages spiritually) you just don’t need to.

I’m really careful on Pinterest and you can make a pin “Hide” if it is not appropriate, which is an upside.

Social Media Effects/What They Mean:

Social Media:

  • Perfect lives/pictures/attitudes/house/clothes
  • Negativity Rules

What Those Effects Do To You:

  • You become dissatisfied with who you are and what you have and truly start believing you are the only one that deals with the problems you’re facing.
  • You start thinking your house isn’t nice enough and your clothes aren’t expensive enough.
  • You start becoming more secular and coveting, (breaking the tenth commandment), constantly and can’t seem to stop thinking about it.
  • You start faking your entire life, you start not being yourself just to get in the cool crowd.

Some of those things can be the worst that happens,  but usually, it is a slow process, and you need to be aware of what’s going on inside you, girl.

So, Can I Have Social Media?

Yes, you can have social media. Now, before you “X” out of this post just listen to me really quick:

You can have social media, you just don’t need to be jumping in as soon as you are allowed to get it, have limits on how much time you spend on there.

Know that the media is fake 1/2 the time, and accept that. Sometimes you just post something and don’t realize what you are doing, it’s reasonable not to want to share the heartbreaking moment a second ago! Just be careful and keep your heart guarded. 🙂

I hope this was helpful to you and you enjoyed this post.

This is my favorite post from you <333
I totally agree. What you said with Snapchat is the same with Instagram and stuff. This is what I've been trying to tell people for years. On social media, you always see the best side of people so it makes it seem like you have such a boring life.
Also, I do love talking politics but I've learned not to online. It definitely can get ugly.
My sister got all the social media you can think of without telling us and it's all she ever does and wants to do.
This post is so true 😛

This is so true, and totally something to look out for. I’m like you, nothing except Email and Pinterest. (Although you have a few more things) You’re right: Pinterest can be cute and bad for you. Thanks for this good point!

This is great! I don’t have social media either, but it’s honestly not the end of the world. I’ll probably get them sometime but I want to show myself that I can live without them first.

lets just say its dangerous my mom does not let me ether witch i don’t care. Why you should not get Facebook is because Facebook can sell your information to strangers it happen before): (not to me i don’t have it thank GOD). SNAPCHAT Snapchat is bad because some people use it wrong that’s why my mom will not let me have it. i don’t really know about the rest. PS I don’t have any Social media and do you go to a public school??

Yeah, I agree with it all and that’s probably very wise of your mother, honestly. I don’t have it, (and glad of it). I am homeschooled and more specifically online-schooled at Veritas Press which is classical education and I do other stuff at home like math. 😛 And you?

This is so true! EVERYTHING comes with its good and bad effects! You have to be careful that which one you are gonna pick! I dont use most of the above mentioned sites, but I do use insta . It helps me share my art. But yeah! Now that my exams are starting from 2 March, I deleted it, and will join after the are over. This is something u do to stop myself from getting distracted. And to keep away the bad effects!
And this was a really helpful post!

I just read this, and I completely agree with EVERYTHING you’ve said. I have Instagram and Snapchat, and it makes me so sad to see my friends upset with their life because someone else seems to have a “better” life than they do. Whenever I use social media I try to be as real as I possibly can and never fake anything. I’ve gotten some negative comments about how I’m different from everyone else on there but they don’t bother me too much, because I know they come from people who are trying to make me be like everyone else (:
